Bede Allowance

The Bede community is a small part of the population of Bangladesh. According to a survey by the Department of Social Services, there are about 75,702 Vedic communities in Bangladesh. The nomadic community is known as the Vedic community. 99 percent of the Bede population are Muslims and 90 percent are illiterate. Among the Bede communities divided into 8 tribes are Malbede, Sapuria, Bajikar, Sandar, Tola, Mirshikari, Burial Sanda and Gain Bede etc. Their main occupations are petty trading, selling amulets and charms, treating snake bites, catching snakes, showing snake plays, selling snakes, spiritual health services, planting horns, selling herbal medicines, performing poetry, monkey plays, magic shows etc.


Brief Background of the Programme:  The current government has undertaken various programs to integrate the Bede community as a backward community into the mainstream of society with the aim of implementing the key mantra of SDG “No one should be left behind”. From the financial year 2012-13 to 2018-19, the two programs for improving the quality of life of the backward and backward communities were together. In the financial year 2019-20, this program is being separated and is being run as an independent program called "Bede Population Development Program".


Aims and Objectives:

Special allowance of 500 taka per person per month for disabled and indigent persons aged 50 years or above.

Increasing the skills of the people through vocational training and bringing them into the mainstream of society by involving them in income-generating activities;

Post Training Resettlement Assistance Rs.10,000/-(Ten Thousand).

Service Delivery Procedures  ( In Brief ):


Subject to receipt of allotment (Bhola Sadar/ Daulatkhan/ Borhanuddin/ Lalmohan/ Tajumuddin/ Charfashan/ Manpura) Upazila / City Social Service Officer publishes circular. Then you have to apply for veda allowance online. Application link: //mis.bhata.gov.bd/onlineApplication  The received application is scrutinized by the union/municipal committee on the spot and sent to the upazila committee in the form of a proposal. Then the upazila committee scrutinizes and selects the beneficiaries according to the allocation. Data entry in MIS in the name of the selected person, opening of Mobile Financial Service 'Cash' account, verification and dispatch of payroll from field office. Allowance is remitted to Beneficiary's mobile/bank through EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) through GTU (Government to Person) method through Ibus++ subject to approval of remitted payroll.


Time required to receive service :

1. Within 03 months of application subject to receipt of new allotment;

2. In case of old or regular 07 working days

Training: Trade based training is provided to working persons above 18 years of age. Vocational trades like sewing, computers, beautification etc.
